July 2024
Flexera One introduced the following new features and enhancements this month.
Administration
Flexera One released the following new Administration feature in July 2024.
SAML assertion attributes firstName and lastName no longer required for JIT provisioning
This feature is available with Administration.
To provide more flexibility for customers using JIT provisioning, the following SAML 2.0 assertion attributes have been changed from required to optional:
-
firstName
-
lastName
Although no longer required, Flexera recommends the use of these attributes as a best practice. They are shown in the Flexera One UI and used across the platform
For more information, see Just-In-Time Provisioning in the Flexera One Help.
Cloud Cost Optimization
Cloud Cost Optimization released the following enhancements in July 2024.
Kubecost Flexera Exporter tool enhanced to automatically create bill connect
This feature is available with Cloud Cost Optimization.
Flexera One supports the Kubecost and OpenCost bill ingestion using the Common Bill Ingestion (CBI) bill connect. A CBI bill connect creates an entry point in Cloud Cost Optimization, through which you will then be able to upload bills.
Previously, integrating Kubecost and OpenCost required creating a CBI bill connect before deploying the integration. With this feature, the Kubecost Flexera Exporter tool has been enhanced to automatically create a bill connect, if it does not exist. This feature simplifies the deployment process for you.
This feature is available with version 1.16.0 or later of the Kubecost Flexera Exporter tool.
For more information, see the following Flexera One Help topics:
New capability in Cloud Cost Optimization to create recommendation sets (Beta Release)
This beta feature is available with Cloud Cost Optimization and is not available to all customers yet. If you would like the Creating Recommendation Set beta feature enabled in the user interface, contact Flexera Support. For more information, see Contacting Flexera Support.
Cloud Cost Optimization includes a new capability that streamlines the process of enabling optimization recommendations through the creation of recommendation sets. This feature enables you to quickly apply relevant policies for your cloud providers to generate savings recommendations, eliminating the need to manually navigate and apply policies from the Flexera Automation Catalog.
A recommendation set is a construct that simplifies the application of a core policy across multiple accounts. A user-friendly, step-by-step wizard guides you through the creation process on the Optimization page (Cloud > Cost Optimization > Optimization) or the Recommendation Sets page (Cloud > Cost Optimization > Recommendation Sets). After the recommendation sets are created, the corresponding savings recommendations will be enabled and available in the Rate Reduction and Usage Reduction recommendations tables (Cloud > Cloud Optimization > Optimization and Cloud > Cost Optimization > Billing Centers).
Previously, to enable these recommendations, you were required to complete multiple steps, which involved understanding the automation policy generating these recommendations and determining which policy to apply. Now, you can easily apply the policies and enable the recommendations in the Rate Reduction and Usage Reduction recommendations tables (Cloud > Cloud Optimization > Optimization and Cloud > Cost Optimization > Billing Centers).
For more information, see Setting Up a Recommendation Set (Beta Release) in the Flexera One Help.
IT Asset Management
IT Asset Management released the following features and enhancements in July 2024.
View Product Use Rights for software SKUs
This feature is available with IT Asset Management.
From this release, you can now see Product Use Rights for individual software SKUs by means of the new Use rights & rules tab. This tab gives you the ability to view associated use rights for the selected software SKU you are browsing.
On accessing this tab, you can see at a glance if you have the legal right to use additional copies of the licensed software (without extra cost), use software on computers for specific purposes (based on the roles of the devices), use the software on virtual machines and so on.
All associated use rights are documented within this tab, and therefore some of the associated use rights may not appear based on the license type. For example, Upgrade rights are only displayed when the SKU has one single application linked to it. If the SKU is linked to multiple applications, it will not display. The reason being, each individual application has its own specific upgrade versions/editions.
For more information, see Use rights & rules Tab in the Help.
Please always make sure you read your publisher contracts as there might be additional exceptions that can overrule general Product Use Rights.
IT Asset Management Data API enhancement
This feature is available with IT Asset Management.
From this release, two new endpoints have been added to the IT Asset Management Data API to allow you to allocate/deallocate one or many licenses to users and devices within your organization’s technology-asset estate.
/fnms/v1/orgs/{orgId}/licenses/{licenseId}/allocation : This endpoint allows you to allocate devices/users to a license.
/fnms/v1/orgs/{orgId}/licenses/{licenseId}/deallocation : This endpoint allows you to deallocate devices or users from a license.
The following license types can be allocated: User and Device license types which allow for allocation, including data center license types.
As well as allocating licenses, the new endpoints also allow you to assign license keys, assign an expiry date for the license, provide a reason why a user or device has been allocated to a license, and lastly provide a reason why a user or device is exempt from consuming a license.
The expiry date for each allocated license key can be viewed from the new Software license expiry date column in the Consumption tab within License Properties. In addition to the new Software license expiry date column in the Consumption tab, you can now add a license UUID property and license expiry date property in the Report Builder when creating custom reports.
For API documentation on the new endpoints, see IT Asset Management Data API.

Publisher Properties link removed from the SAM Publisher Hub grid
This enhancement is available with IT Asset Management.
To improve stability and performance of the SAM Publisher Hub, you can no longer navigate to the Publisher Properties page by clicking the publisher name in the SAM Publisher Hub grid.
In order to view and search publisher properties for a publisher from this release onwards, navigate to Application & Evidence > Applications > Application Publishers.
Data pertaining to a publisher can still be searched for and chosen from the Select a Publisher search field. This change only removes the hyperlink from the publisher name in the SAM Publisher Hub grid.
