March 2025

Flexera One introduced the following new features and enhancements this month.

Automation

Automation released the following enhancement in March 2025.

Credential expiration alerts now available

note

This enhancement is available with Automation.

Automation users can now be alerted on the Automation Credentials (Automation > Credentials) page when credentials are about to expire. When there are 60 days remaining until a credential expires, a label saying Expires soon will appear next to the credential name on the page. Once the expiration date has passed, the label will change to Expired.

The new Expiration Date field must be filled in to enable the feature for a credential. The field is optional and can be filled in when creating or updating a credential.

Cloud Cost Optimization

Cloud Cost Optimization released the following feature in March 2025.

Cost Planning now available in Cloud Cost Optimization

note

This feature is available with Cloud Cost Optimization.

Flexera One has introduced the Cost Planning feature (Cloud > Cost Optimization > Cost Planning) to enhance the usability and functionality of viewing and analyzing cloud spend. Previously known as Budgets (Cloud > Cost Optimization > Budgets), this feature enabled teams to track only their actual cloud spend against a defined budget.

With Cost Panning, FinOps teams can now define plans and manage budgeting and forecasting data cohesively. Forecasting is the primary step in creating an accurate cost plan, enabling teams to estimate future cloud spending and keep their cost in line. As a result, they can manage their cloud spend more efficiently.

Additionally, FinOps teams can now adopt a decentralized approach to forecasting and budgeting cloud spend. Only teams with cost access (at the organizational or billing center level) can view and manage these plans, ensuring controlled visibility and governance.

Enhancements to existing functionality

Cost Planning includes all the budget planning features along with the following new enhancements. This feature enables you to:

  • Create a plan using the New Plan button.

  • Use the new Billing Centers level dimensions to provide billing center users access to view segments and actual spending related only to their specific billing centers.

  • Create a budget and forecast independently.

  • Create a budget from the forecast data by using the Copy Data From Forecast button.

  • Automatically retrieve the forecast data from the AI model by using the Fill From Historical Data button or manually entering the forecast data.

  • Export the forecast data and the budget data to either CSV or Excel (XLSX).

  • View the forecast variance (percent of actual spend versus forecast values).

For more information, see Cost Planning in the Flexera One Help.

License Summary page compliance status logic update

note

This enhancement is available with IT Asset Management.

Prior to this update, under certain circumstances, the compliance status for the same license was displayed differently on the All Licenses page when compared to the License Summary page, even though it referred to the same license. For example, on the All Licenses page, "License A" was marked as Compliant, while the same license ("License A"), was shown as Unknown on the License Summary page. This discrepancy occurred because the License Summary page used data from the License Snapshot table, while the All Licenses page pulled data from the Software Licenses table.

In the License Snapshot table, specific rules dictate that if a license is associated with a certain type of alert, its compliance status is set to Unknown on the License Summary page. However, the Software Licenses table does not follow the same logic, and the compliance status remains Compliant unless explicitly changed.

With this update, the compliance status logic in the License Snapshot table has been aligned with the logic used in the Software Licenses table. Now, if a license is marked as Compliant on the All Licenses page, it will also be shown as Compliant on the License Summary page, regardless of any associated alerts. Alerts will no longer override the compliance status.

Additionally, the License Summary page now displays the number of alerts associated with each license. In card view, a new Alerts field has been added beneath Consumed to show the alert count. In list view, a red box displaying the number of alerts will appear next to the license name in the table.

Fix for the issue where installer evidence is not generated from a SWID tag created with the 2015 or later standard

note

This enhancement is available with IT Asset Management.

Prior to this release, IT Asset Management was unable to detect SWID tags created using the 2015 or later standard. As a result, when processing software installer evidence from an ISO 19770-2 software identification tag file based on the 2015 or later standard, IT Asset Management only generated a file evidence record, without creating a corresponding installer evidence record. Additionally, attempting to resolve a SWID tag created using the 2015 or later standard would log an error message in the SoftwareIsoTagFile table (column: ParseErrorMessage).

tip

A software identification tag (SWID tag) is an ISO 19770-2 compliant XML file that describes a software product.

In previous IT Asset Management versions, SWID tag information using the new schema was stored in the database for an extended period but was not properly evaluated. With this update, the system can now correctly assess the new schema. However, if no changes are made to the SWID tag in the NDI file (the MD5 value remains unchanged), no update will occur, and the evidence will remain unavailable in IT Asset Management.

From this release, two key changes will take place. First, when a new SWID tag with a different MD5 value is detected in the NDI file, the system will update and evaluate the new schema accordingly. Second, installer evidence generated from SWID tags using the 2015 or later standard will now appear in the Installer Evidence tab on the All Evidence page, which displays all installation evidence discovered across your enterprise and in the Application Recognition Library.
